For the second task we were given for the module, I had to create a piece using Adobe Photoshop while using photo bashing to construct it.
For this task I wanted to make a piece that shows the landscape of Mars while having the Earth in the sky in the distance, however during production I improvised to better adjust to my capabilities since I had only used photo bashing a few times before.
The final product was made using images on royalty free sites which include Pexels and Unsplash.
The Design Process…
The first thing I did was collect a landscape for the project, I decided on a rain shadow desert which is an arid area which is sheltered by mountain ranges which block moisturised air. I then edited this image to give it a red hue and lower brightness so it has a similar appearance to Mars.
I then cut out the sky and replace it with a more dusty aesthetic to match the environment. After this was when I decided to change the theme to post-apocalypse New York that has been buried in sand. So instead of adding Earth and the Moon in the sky as intended, I included remnants of human cilvilisation such as the Statue of Liberty, a high-rise building and a deserted boat.

I used another image to add faded stars in the sky which I altered using a 25% opacity eraser tool to make them appear faded through the obscured sky.
Pros and Cons…
The positive of this piece is that I believe that it adopts a interesting theme that is used in a lot of media so people are familiar with the concept. This also meant that I had a reason to adjust with the hue and brightness sliders to make the image fit more with this theme.
The con of this image is that the scene is very empty because of the theme and landscape choices. There could have been a more interesting and inclusive environment if the landscape was on a ruined city block rather than the city being almost entirely buried in sand.
