The Design Process
On week four of our game design course, we had to design a perspective and composition piece in one, two or three point perspective. For this project I used Adobe Photoshop during class and free time in the Media Hub.
For this piece I wanted to have a nearby reference so that I can gain more understanding of the area I’d be drawing on the computer, so I chose the hallway outside of the computer lab since it seemed simple which was perfect since I don’t have much experience with art. I took a picture of the hallway on my phone so I didn’t need to get up every two minutes to have a look at my reference.

In Adobe Photoshop, I created a vanishing point where all of the lines in the final piece would point to. I did this by using the hexagon tool with altered settings to make a layer that has lines coming off the centre, that layer’s opacity was then lowered to make it easier to draw over it.
From then I started to draw the outline of the hallway’s walls based of my reference image, then I added other aspects such as doors and windows.
From there I added added so that the bricks on the walls were visible in the piece in areas that aligned with reality and then added other details to the walls such as the card scanner, fire exit sign and slight shadowing on the image.

Pros and Cons
Positives:
One point that is good about this piece is that the one point perspective and shaping of the hallway’s borders was done quite well considering my lack of experience.
The shading in this image was done better than my last project’s which shows some progress on my part on understanding art elements.
Negatives:
There are some aspects of the reference image that don’t make an appearance such as the door on the left, the hand sanitiser dispenser, signs on the middle door and it’s door frame which was overlooked.
There are some other areas that show a lack of detail such as some of the bricks on the left being present and transparency on the door windows.
Conclusion
Overall, I personally like this piece over my previous project although there’s some areas that could be improved on. However, I believe that this will help me better work on future pieces and produce higher quality results. I would therefore rate this project a 7.5/10.
